Volume Replication and Auto Failover with iSCSI logical volumes up to 16 TBytes extend the functionality with the latest DSS V6 update!

Stoneham, MA – 16th of March 2010 - Open-E, Inc., leading developer of innovative storage management software, today announced an update for its latest generation of Open-E IP-storage management software. The most successful operating system, Open-E Data Storage Software V6 (DSS V6) received a powerful boost, which enriches the functionality by iSCSI volume replication and failover of logical volumes up to 16 TByte, but also integrates a number of minor feature updates. Support for the Qlogic 8Gb FC HBA's is now fully ready for initiator and target.

The increase of capacity for volume replication to 16 TByte brings considerable availability advantages by extreme short recovery time from databases and archives. Classical backups need hours to days for these capabilities during restore. Open-E volume replication only needs minutes to a few hours using real-time synchronization and incremental replication.

Because the data is constantly mirrored resyncing is required only for the time period without connection between the original data and replication. This technology coupled with a capacity of 16 TByte offers an unbeatable advantage compared to conventional backup systems and provides significant benefits for businesses that require high availability and data integrity.

The storage operating system from Open-E received extensive enhancements and feature updates. The QLogic 8Gb FC HBA is now supported as initiator and target, and the overload of the system by file I/O iSCSI volumes and FC volumes has been fixed. In addition, the system now shuts down correctly and reliably when it is connected to an iSCSI target via the internal iSCSI initiator.
