The Open-E JovianDSS up10 includes a whole range of new features that will provide its users with even greater storage management and overall efficiency, being at the same reliable and field-proven. In this article you will find more details on the updated software. Read on!

Open-E JovianDSS key features

Open-E JovianDSS is a ZFS- and Linux-based data storage software designed especially for enterprise-sized storage environments. With its unique features, the product ensures highest data reliability and integrity, and addresses the needs of enterprise users seeking a unified NAS or SAN solution with thin provisioning, compression and deduplication.

Key features of the Software Defined Open-E JovianDSS:

High availability

Tiered RAM and SSD caching

Data compression

Inline data deduplication

Data integrity

Thin and over provisioning

Unlimited snapshots and clones

Open-E JovianDSS update 10

The updated Open-E JovianDSS includes latest stable packages for higher storage security. The software architecture is ZFS on Linux and offers superior stability and performance. Additionally, the easy-to-use WebGUI allows simple storage management and administration. The update includes:

NEW HA cluster for NFS and iSCSI

ADVANCED HA cluster management software

NEW independent VIP feature

UPDATED storage OS – includes latest stable packages for higher security

The High Availability cluster for NFS and iSCSI provides users with highest data security during failover. Also, the independent VIP (Virtual IP Addresses) feature offers increased data availability in unexpected maintenance cases. Additionally, advanced HA cluster management software enables quick and easy setup and management of all cluster functionalities.

Open-E JovianDSS iSCSI Failover

Open-E JovianDSS NAS Failover

ZFS file system

The software is built on the most scalable and flexible 128-bit file system which provides practically unlimited file size. Also thanks to easy and intuitive storage expansion, Open-E JovianDSS offers unlimited scalability and compatibility. Additionally, warranted data integrity enables self-healing, check-sums, atomic writes and transactional copy-on-write I/O operations to eliminate silent data corruption and ‘write-holes’.

Data management

To ensure data safety and availability, Open-E JovianDSS uses disk redundancy in form of n-way mirrors and RAID arrays with up to three parity disks. It also includes RAM and SSD cache that tier hot data between each other to increase performance. Hybrid storage pools in turn utilize the I/O performance of SSDs and high capacity of HDDs in a single system. Moreover, Open-E JovianDSS allows unlimited snapshots and clones that can be remotely activated via CLI and enables easy backup. This is worth remembering, as in most legacy solutions, the limit for snapshots is set to 255. Storage service reports generate automatic and periodic reports to manage the performance of the system and integrate it into management solutions based on SNMP or external log server. Thin provisioning virtually simulates a bigger volume than is physically available, and allows growing it on the fly without the need to re-format the file-system.

Further information on Open-E JovianDSS or the update can be found on the Open-E website>>

Today, after a couple of very busy months, we would like to announce a major update for Open-E JovianDSS – the ZFS-based Software Defined Storage solution.
