Imagine going through a pandemic without streaming services &#8211; tough, huh? <\/span><b>Cinemas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also rely on digital copies of films as it\u2019s easier to be accessed and played. The work of so many people at every stage of content creation &#8211; both games and movies or videos, carries the risk of data loss in transmission or degradation while storing. So it would be a disaster to be forced to repeat the entire process in case of any data corruption or loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CCTV instead MTV<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is another sector of video recording worth mentioning but not related to journalism or art &#8211; security.<\/span><b> CCTV carries specific requirements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in this regard. It can be assured by the high bandwidth of network adapters, especially in the case of videos recorded with high-resolution cameras. We can\u2019t forget that high-resolution recording makes the video files big, sometimes huge. Therefore, it\u2019s beneficial if the storage environment allows us to achieve both good write performance and high capacity. Quite often, copies of a file are stored in one place so the editor can prepare its variations. Based on our experience in such an environment, we recommend using particular equipment such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom:7px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Chassis:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom:0;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>a large case, e.g. 4U for 3.5&#8243; drives, top-loader JBOD.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 7px;\">\n<li><b>CPU:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Intel Xeon Silver series high frequency or AMD equivalent <\/b>should be enough<b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<li><b>RAM:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>64GB or 128GB <\/b>in most cases is perfectly adequate<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Except that, we suggest implementing a couple of well-functioning practices, like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 7px;\">\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 7px;\"><b>Data groups:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\">High-capacity<strong> NL SAS<\/strong> disk drives (for Shared Storage Cluster) or some <strong>high-capacity SATA<\/strong> disk drives (for Single Node). SATA disks are only inside the server and not in external JBOD.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Storage controller:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 7px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\">It is good practice to have a <strong>disk controller with an additional external port<\/strong> to allow storage capacity expansion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Write log:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\">When the recorder stores data locally and then replicates that data to Open-E JovianDSS storage, it is possible to <strong>change the txg_timeout setting to 1 second and sync to standard in volumes<\/strong> and then not use a dedicated Write Log at all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this case, the<\/span> <b>read cache<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is not that important as long as you are not streaming.
