I already use Open-E DSS V6/V7 – can I upgrade to Open-E JovianDSS?

Upgrading directly from Open-E DSS V6 or V7 is not possible as JovianDSS uses a different file system (ZFS). To perform a successful transfer, you will need to restore a backup to your new JovianDSS-based system.

Which protocols are supported in Open-E JovianDSS?

Open-E JovianDSS supports iSCSI, FC and NFS, SMB (CIFS) protocols.

Which cluster options do I have with Open-E JovianDSS?

With Open-E JovianDSS you can set up High Availability Clusters with Ethernet, SAS or Fibre Channel connections. The Standard HA Cluster Feature Pack enables High Availability for two server nodes connected to a single storage or one (or more) JBOD(s). The Advanced Metro HA Cluster Feature Pack enables you to create High Availability for two server nodes with storage at each location (Dual Storage) mirrored over Ethernet (up to 50 miles / 80km). It also supports configurations of the Open-E JovianDSS Standard HA Cluster Feature Pack.

You are free to choose whichever hardware best suits your needs. With Open-E JovianDSS you are hardware independent and can use commodity hardware. However, Open-E JovianDSS Certified Servers are a safe solution offered by our partners – tested, benchmarked and certified by Open-E.
