Open-E Overview

Open-E, Inc. is a pioneering leader and developer of IP-based storage management software with headquarters in the United States and Europe. Founded in 1998, the company sells its line of storage management software through a world-wide network of system integrator and reseller partners. The Open-E® DSS™, NAS-R3™ and iSCSI-R3™ line of products are aimed at the SMB and SME markets and enjoy a reputation for best-in-class performance, flexibility, reliability, scalability and return-on-investment.

Open-E storage management products are known throughout the storage industry for their robust architecture, ease-of-use and affordability. The products are also highly flexible, and have the ability to support a variety of protocols, such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel or Infiniband, in either file or block data transmission. Open-E works with technology industry leaders to deliver our software on a variety of industry-standard hardware platforms.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple: we support the commoditization of data storage. Historically, enterprise-class storage solutions have been monolithic, proprietary and expensive. Buyers were locked into one vendor, for one set of technologies and products. Scalable solutions, with advanced storage management features and capabilities such as remote replication, snap copy and automatic failover were costly and affordable only by large enterprise customers.

We endeavor to ensure that our software is not only affordable and easy to use, but also rich in the features that SMBs and SMEs want. By using industry standard server building blocks, such as rack mount chassis, x86 server boards and low cost SATA RAID controllers, our system integrators can build storage hardware platforms at a fraction of the cost of Tier1 storage vendors.

We also invest heavily in engineering-based relationships with vendors across the server and storage industry to ensure interoperability with our software. We have an extensive compatibility list, which offers not only tremendous choice and flexibility to our system integrator partners, but allows them to build the exact solutions their customers want – at a fraction of the historical cost.

Finally, we believe in partnering with our system integrators and resellers - not competing with them. We do not have a direct sales force. Also, unlike other storage software vendors, we are one of the few storage software companies not to sell our own branded storage appliance. As a result, we can focus exclusively on developing, selling and supporting world-class storage management software.

Open-E has an extensive technology compatibility list for OEMs and system integrators to choose from, featuring over 500 products from nearly 30 vendors . We work closely with leading technology hardware and software vendors to ensure interoperability with our software. Our alliances include technology industry leaders such as Intel, AMD, Microsoft, VMWare, Symantec, Adaptec, LSI, Supermicro and many others. We also work with emerging vendors to deliver support in our software for upcoming technologies such as 10Gb Ethernet, Infiniband and virtualization. This allows our OEM and system integrator partners to customize and build the affordable, scalable and secure storage systems of their customer’s choosing.

With an extensive network of over 600 registered OEMs, distributors and reseller partners, including over 200 Open-E certified partners, our customers have the flexibility to work with the hardware solution provider of their choosing, allowing Open-E to focus on its core competency of storage software development.
