In a Nutshell – Open-E in 2024

Finally, the time has come to reflect on 2024. It was primarily a year of change for Open-E – closing certain chapters in our history and writing new ones. We are thrilled that our team has grown by adding new members who joined our crew. We are excited to have you on board at Open-E. We look forward to the insights you will bring to developing our products and their promotion in the data storage market!

2024 was also a time for goodbyes. In November, we officially ended support for our legacy product – Open-E DSS V7. This step allows us to focus on what lies ahead and gather our strength for what 2025 will bring.

But before that, we’d like to share our memories of the past year with you!

Awards and nominations

We were deeply honored to receive awards and nominations at prestigious international industry competitions:

• DCS Awards 2024 – Data Centre ICT Storage Innovation of the Year

We have won the Data Center ICT Storage Innovation of the Year award. This is especially important to us, as it underscores Open-E’s commitment to innovation and the unwavering support of data storage experts and enthusiasts.

This achievement reflects not only our technical expertise but also our team’s commitment to the development of our products and the data storage industry as a whole. We continue to pride ourselves on being a leader in setting new standards for data storage solutions.

Open-E JovianDSS has been recognized as one of the 50 Coolest Software-Defined Storage Solutions of the year in the prestigious CRN 100 Storage ranking. This accolade highlights its innovation, reliability, and scalability, making it a top choice for enterprises seeking robust data protection and optimized data center operations. Praised for its user-friendly interface and seamless integration, Open-E JovianDSS continues to set new standards in the software-defined data storage market.

We have also been nominated for multiple awards from the most respected organizations in the data storage market, like Storage Awards 2024, SDC Awards 2024, and Network Computing Awards 2024.

Events

As every year, we have traveled thousands of kilometers! It’s extremely enjoyable traveling. Through them, we have the pleasure of meeting familiar faces – friends, colleagues, and partner representatives – and expanding our circle of industry acquaintances. Sharing insights on data storage challenges is an extremely educational and effective way to grow our business and product. We always enthusiastically welcome visitors to our booths and visit others to shake hands and chat for a while. This year, we had the opportunity to do so by attending the following events:

However, the annual Open-E gala is particularly close to our hearts. At this event, we can bring the whole crew together to present awards to the most deserving employees and enjoy a friendly dinner atmosphere.

Product Updates

As mentioned earlier, we ended support for Open-E DSS V7. However, we didn’t stop there! In 2024, we launched a new software update – Open-E JovianDSS Up30 – packed with features our users eagerly anticipated. Key enhancements included ZFS Special Devices, NVMe partitions, macOS Time Machine support, and expanded Active Directory integration.

The Defend IT Egino NVMe Metro Cluster, with core optimizer, engine boost, and workload presets, is a ready-to-use solution tested in the Open-E Lab. It offers robust hardware for extreme disruptions and comprehensive data protection features to keep your data safe and always available.

• Pardis HP DL380 Gen10 HA All-Flash Cluster

The system ensures high speed with an All-Flash SSD array and an NVMe writelog, boosting performance. It supports up to 3 TB of RAM for enhanced power and seamless workflow. Additionally, the Pardis HP DL380 Gen10 offers robust data protection with self-healing, snapshots, and failover to prevent data access interruptions.

• Toshiba MG10SFA22TE HDD

The Toshiba MG10SFA22TE HDD proved reliable and high-performing in tests, making it ideal for enterprise storage, backups, and CCTV recording. Open-E recommends it for environments requiring high data integrity, capacity, and availability.

• Seagate Exos X24 HDD

Seagate Exos X24 24TB HDD provides high-capacity storage with advanced Helium-sealed technology for lower power use and improved reliability. Ideal for cloud, big data, and backup, they suit enterprise storage, business servers, file and block storage, backups, and CCTV recording.

We have also conducted the OECE training – On-Site Open-E Certified Engineer Exam at our German office in Puchheim. Thomas-Krenn team – thank you for hosting the event and supporting the certification process. We are sure that the knowledge gained during the training will be useful in developing data storage technology, which you will undoubtedly contribute to.

We remain passionate about organizing webinars, which provide an excellent opportunity to connect with data storage enthusiasts and exchange insights on new technologies and applications in the data storage industry. This year, webinars were held on the following topics:

We are pleased that together with Optima Packaging, we were able to create a very interesting case study on migration from our legacy product – Open-E DSS V7, to the latest – Open-E JovianDSS to demonstrate on a live body the range of possibilities offered by the transition to a more modern system offered by Open-E.

2025 – Vision for Growth and Innovation

We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings. The new year opens up a vast sea of development opportunities, which we will not hesitate to utilize. We have been preparing for this for some time, constantly moving forward instead of letting the grass grow under our feet.
