You are free to choose whichever hardware best suits your needs. With Open-E JovianDSS, you are hardware-independent and can use commodity hardware. However, Open-E JovianDSS Certified Servers are a safe solution offered by our partners - tested, benchmarked, and certified by Open-E.

No, Open-E JovianDSS is only available with a support license. This way, our partners can ensure the security of your storage system and be of assistance with every hardware- or software-related issue.

Upgrading directly from Open-E DSS V6 or V7 is not possible as Open-E JovianDSS uses a different file system (ZFS). To perform a successful transfer, you will need to restore a backup to your new
Open-E JovianDSS-based system.

Open-E JovianDSS supports iSCSI, FC, and NFS, SMB (CIFS) protocols.

With Open-E JovianDSS, you can set up High Availability Clusters with Ethernet, SAS, or Fibre Channel connections. The Standard HA Cluster Feature Pack enables High Availability for two server nodes connected to a single storage or one (or more) JBOD(s). The Advanced Metro HA Cluster Feature Pack enables you to create High Availability for two server nodes with storage at each location (Dual Storage) mirrored over Ethernet (up to 50 miles / 80km). It also supports configurations of the Open-E JovianDSS Standard HA Cluster Feature Pack.
