Irlbacher Blickpunkt Glas GmbH, a leader in technical glass processing, generates several terabytes of data daily, primarily from AI-supported quality control systems. Each produced component is documented with raw image files up to 400 MB, which must be stored in a revision-safe manner for up to five years. While an all-flash system handled performance-critical production processes , they urgently needed a dedicated, highly-available platform for archiving large, less performance-critical datasets like raw image data, CRM mass data, and development environments. The solution had to be based on standard hardware, easy to administer, and flexible enough to serve as a future successor to their existing primary system. They chose a Thomas-Krenn.AG recommendation: the Open-E JovianDSS Metro HA Cluster.
- Open-E JovianDSS Metro HA Cluster with approximately 52 TiB net capacity
- Data storage platform for AI image processing, CRM, and development data
- Integration into Microsoft Hyper-V environment with a central Windows file server
- Cost-efficient standard hardware combined with high availability
File size: 1.8 MB
Challenges
Irlbacher required a cost-effective, scalable, and highly available extension to archive thousands of raw image files (up to 400 MB each) generated daily by AI quality inspection. This system needed to relieve the primary all-flash system and securely store data for up to five years.
Solution
In partnership with Thomas-Krenn.AG, an Open-E JovianDSS Metro HA Cluster was implemented, consisting of two nodes with standard pre-configured hardware setup. The system was deployed with pre-installation and was fully operational after just half a day on-site.
Achieved Result
The system runs stably, providing high availability confirmed in testing and flawless real-world failover. It integrates seamlessly into the Microsoft Hyper-V environment and is easily administered via a clear web interface. As Head of IT Andreas Albang stated: "The high availability in this price range is unbeatable".
