Publishing house centralizes virtual storage environment with Open-E JovianDSS

For its growing amount of data, Dähne publishing had been using an eight year old virtualized environment based on Open-E DSS V6. It was time to look for a new solution. The project of developing a new storage concept was handed over to Open-E Platinum Partner and storage specialist Rausch Netzwerktechnik who presented a new concept consisting of a centralized virtual environment with 10Gbit RJ45 – this time based on servers of their own brand Sasquatch with the ZFS-based storage software JovianDSS by Open-E.

High availability hypervisor platform for stock photo agency

The world's largest online photo agency Alamy required a resilient storage solution with load-balancing, redundancy against hardware failure, and the ability to install hardware and OS updates without downtime. The company chose Open-E DSS V7 with Active-Active iSCSI Failover to provide high availability iSCSI storage, and set up an environment which also leveraged Hyper-V 2012 clustering to provide a HA hypervisor platform.

The employees in the terminal server sessions with the frontend of the CRM were impressed by the high performance of Open-E JovianDSS. As a test, we also ran these SQL VMs on the old DSS V7 cluster. The initial opening of an address database (about 2.2 billion addresses) took up to 22 seconds in the old system, the second opening went down to 17 seconds. The same VMs open the address database on Open-E JovianDSS system in less than 2 seconds. The second opening of all databases is obviously not measurable because of the good caching. In addition, videos for online training and internal promotional purposes run from Open-E JovianDSS Cluster did not indicate any performance slumps to date. Memon has confirmed the full success of the system.
