The following certification report presents the results of various compatibility and performance tests performed on the KIOXIA FL6 NVMe™ SSDs combined with Open-E JovianDSS. A description of the testing methods used during those procedures will also be provided. The results obtained from the aforementioned testing and technical specifications were used as the basis for recommendations on specific roles in which to use the device under test (DUT) in Open-E JovianDSS-based systems.

Testing Process
The devices were tested in two data storage scenarios, including serving as cache devices that support both write operations (writelog) and read operations (read cache), data drives in the All-Flash data storage appliances. For these cases, functional and performance testing was performed for single node configurations and functional testing for High Availability non-shared storage cluster configurations. Detailed descriptions for each of the tests are included in the appropriate report chapters.
Raw Device Read and Write Performance
Chart 1 illustrates the number of IOPS acquired in random read command test on the raw device. Based on these results, we can state that the device performance is at the same level as the manufacturer declared it.
The random write performance of the KIOXIA FL6 NVMe™ SSD increases along with the threads and queue depth increase, as shown in Chart 2. This illustrates an even twice better result with higher threads and queue depths than was expected by the manufacturer.
All-Flash Storage
The device tests as data drives in the All-Flash storage solution powered by Open-E JovianDSS were carried out on a zpool consisting of 4 single-drive data groups. The size of an ARC was artificially decreased during the read tests (both for random and sequential cases) in order to make sure that most IOs would be served from the actual storage, not from RAM.
Charts 3 and 4 illustrate the performance comparison of the KIOXIA FL6 NVMe™ SSD and the other NVMe drive model. The KIOXIA device has shown a distinguished workload performance in comparison to the alternative disk.

Summary
All test results proved that KIOXIA FL6 NVMe™ SSDs can be considered a reasonable and competitive choice. It is recommended to use Open-E JovianDSS with the KIOXIA FL6 NVMe™ SSDs as data drives for All-Flash storage solutions. Given the high performance and low latencies achieved in testing, the examined device can safely be added to the Open-E Hardware Certification List and granted “Certified by Open-E” status.
